Who made this photo?

Metadata gets stripped and visible watermarks get cropped. A Watermark Gienie invisible marker stays in the pixels. Drop a photo to read it and see who it is registered to.

Your photo is read on this device and never uploaded.

How it works

A mark you can't see, a record you can check

1

Marked on export

Watermark Gienie Pro hides a 10-character ID in the pixels of every photo it exports. It is tied to the photographer's licence.

2

Survives the internet

Stripped metadata, recompression and resizing don't remove it. It does not change how the photo looks.

3

Checked here

This page reads the ID on your device, then asks the licence register who it belongs to. Only the 10-character ID is sent.

Questions

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. The reader downloads to your browser once, about 47 MB, and runs on your device. The only thing sent to our server is the 10-character marker ID it finds, so we can look up who it is registered to.

No marker was found. Does that mean the photo isn't protected?

It means this copy has no readable Watermark Gienie marker. The photo may never have been marked, or it was cropped very tightly, heavily filtered, or shrunk to a thumbnail. Try the largest copy you can find.

Why don't I see the photographer's name?

Names only show when the licence owner chooses to make them public. Otherwise you see that the photo was marked by a registered, active licence, and when it was registered.

What does "revoked" or "retired" mean?

Retired means the photographer replaced their licence and the old ID was retired. Revoked means the licence was cancelled. A revoked ID is a reason to be cautious about the photo's claimed origin.

I think someone is using my photo. What now?

Save the copy you found and where you found it, then contact [email protected] with the marker ID. A verified marker is strong evidence the photo came from a registered licence.
